Important Message from the Writing Tutor

Dear JE Students,

I hope you had a wonderful break!  Of course I have worked with many of you, but I want to remind those of you I haven't yet seen what I do and how to get in touch with me.

As JE’s writing tutor, I can help you with any kind of writing at any stage of its process.  Seniors, remember that I am here to help you with your personal statements for graduate or professional school as well as scholarship applications.

If you have a draft, please send it and the prompt directly to me as an attachment by 8:00 PM the evening before the meeting.  I cannot read drafts thoroughly and thoughtfully during our tutorial.

It can also be very productive for me to brainstorm with you.  If you cannot send me your paper before our session, just bring a list of ideas, as well as the assignment and text about which you will be writing, to our meeting.

If you need to cancel for any reason, you must do so at least 24 hours in advance of our appointment.  I often have a waiting list, but I need plenty of time to arrange for another student to take your place.

Setting up a session with me is quite simple:

1.Register online at the Yale College Writing Center site. (The address is http://www.yalewco.com/)

2. Sign up for a half hour appointment.  I have sessions on MONDAY, THURSDAY, and SUNDAY afternoons. (BTW, I have one session left for TOMORROW Thursday afternoon, 8/30, at 4:00.)

The online scheduler will permit you to make appointments one week in advance at midnight.  You may schedule no more than one appointment a week.

3. If I do not have any time slots left, write to me directly at Katherine.Hunter@yale.edu and I will try to accommodate you.

4. If you are taking a class with set assignments – such as ENGLISH 120  – I personally can reserve appointments for you up to a month in advance.  However, be 100% certain you can come to this meeting before you ask me to book it.

5. If your paper is longer than 10 pages double-spaced, you will need two sessions -- a brief drop-off appointment followed by a longer meeting to discuss my suggestions.

I look forward to working with you.  Do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions.

Warmest Wishes,
Kate Hunter
