To: The Fellows and Students of Jonathan Edwards College
From: Mary Miller, Dean of Yale College
As you know, Dean Kyle Farley will be leaving the deanship at the end of this term to take up his new duties with Academies Australasia in Sydney, Australia. Master Penelope Laurans and I are grateful to him for his service to Jonathan Edwards and to Yale, and wish him well in his future endeavors.
I will be appointing a committee of JE fellows and students, chaired by Master Laurans, to conduct a search this spring for a new Dean of Jonathan Edwards, who will in place before the start of the next academic year.
I am pleased to report that, after consulting with Master Laurans, I have recently appointed Mr. Conor Frailey to be the interim Dean of Jonathan Edwards College. Mr. Frailey earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics, with honors, and in Physics from the University of Chicago; and the Master of Science and M. Phil. in Mathematics here at Yale. Having completed the research for his dissertation, which concerns representation theory of p-adic groups, he expects to be awarded the Ph.D. in May.
Yale College students are hardly new to Mr. Frailey, who has served as Graduate Affiliate in Davenport College and as instructor in the Math Department. He has taught all levels of undergraduate calculus here at Yale, and has served for several years as a Math and Physics Tutor in the Residential College Math and Science Tutoring Program. He has also been extensively involved in the life of the Graduate School, having served as a Graduate Career Services Fellow, a member of the St. Thomas More Graduate Council, and a Student Life Fellow of the McDougal Center. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mr. Frailey has more than a decade’s experience as a professional and volunteer tutor, and is always eager to engage with Yale College students in and out of the classroom.
A native of Chicago—which he refuses to think of as The Second City—Mr. Frailey comes from a long line of Notre Dame supporters and has a broad interest in sports. He has extensive experience with soccer, tennis, and table tennis, and describes himself as having more enthusiasm than talent for squash and rock climbing. It is with great enthusiasm that he will move in to the Dean’s Suite in Jonathan Edwards College in January. I am confident that he will make many significant and positive contributions to the life of the college, and Master Laurans and I hope you will join us in welcoming him to Jonathan Edwards.
