Jonathan Edwards Alums Marry
Vanessa Mendoza and Brandon Haywood Johnson, both JE ’09, married Sunday at the Union League Cafe, a restaurant in New Haven. The Rev. Rick Rocco, a minister of the Frontline Christian Church, officiated.
The couple, both 24, met at Yale, from which they graduated.
Ms. Mendoza will keep her name. Until last month, she was an architectural designer at the New York architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. In September, she is to start studying for an M.B.A. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
She is a daughter of Deborah J. Mendoza and Alberto D. Mendoza of Hamden, Conn. The bride’s father retired from Ideal Products, a manufacturer in Beacon Falls, Conn., where he operated machinery to make rivets, bolts, nuts and other fasteners. He is now a pastor of the Frontline Christian Church who does volunteer work at the Wallkill Correctional Facility in Wallkill, N.Y. Her mother specializes in behavior-changing techniques for adults with developmental disabilities at the Easter Seals Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center, which provides employment, educational, social and recreational opportunities to disabled persons.
In September, the bridegroom is to start his third year at Harvard Law School. Until recently, he was a summer associate at two New York law firms, having worked at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett until early July and Debevoise & Plimpton until late July.
He is the son of Irene O. Johnson and Ronald A. Johnson of Houston. The bridegroom’s mother is the president of IOJ Recruitment Research Consultants, an executive search firm in Houston. His father is the dean of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University in Houston.
